This beautiful palomino filly was foaled in 1963 and was bred by Wilma Huggett. She is by Grande Zantanon and out of Sugar Drop and was then purchased by Margery Pardo as a two-year-old. Cherizan was trained and shown by John Hoyt during the main part of her career. She was also shown by Dick George and Al Dunning. She won the AQHBA (Arizona Quarter Horse Breeders Association) All Around Horse several times. When purchased by Becky Lasley (Dunning), Cherizan won the All Around Youth title as well. Cherizan earned a total of 318 AQHA points, quite a feat in the days of ½ point classes. Those points were earned in seven different events; Tie Down Roping, Heeling, Reining, Working Cow Horse, Trail, Western Riding and Western Pleasure. Cherizan carried her Youth competitors to a total 364 AQHA points in nine different events. She earned AQHA Superior titles in Reining, Western Pleasure and Youth Western Horsemanship. She was AQHA Reserve World Champion in Sr. Working Cow Horse and Western Riding. In 1970 she was named the AQHA Hi Point Tie-Down Roping Mare.
Cherizan epitomizes the true AQHA all around horse. She could compete at the highest level from Western Pleasure to Roping and Reining. Al and Becky Dunning gave Cherizan a home for life at the Almosta Ranch in Scottsdale Arizona. She died at the age of twenty-one and is buried at their Ranch.
